czarna wstęga

August 08, 1952 – October 09, 2021

With deepest sorrow we inform that Helen Piszek Nelson passed away on October 9, 2021.

As President and CEO of the Copernicus Society of America, which was founded by her late father Mr.Edward Piszek, Helen supported contacts between Poland and the USA in the field of education. Through her great involvement, the programme between the First Bartłomiej Nowodworski High School of Kraków and Germantown Academy in Fort Washington was initiated in 2007. The cooperation between the schools includes the joint concerts of both schools and also student and teacher exchanges.

So far about 700 persons from our school have been able to participate in the programme, which would not have been possible without Helen’s help. Therefore, in 2011 during the concert of the Nowodworski Choir and German Academy’s Singing Patriots in the Philharmonic Hall in Kraków, Helen Piszek Nelson was honoured with the National Education Commission Medal for promoting education between Poland and the USA. Additionally, Helen Piszek Nelson was engaged in her endorsement for cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and Dickinson College in Carlise, Pensylvannia, for which she was awarded with “Plus Ratio Quam Vis” Medal at the JU in Kraków.

Helen’s kindness, generosity and commitment to the First Bartłomiej Nowodworski High School of Kraków and Poland will be remembered by Nowodworek, our school community. Helen, we will miss you.
